Brothers and Sisters,

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5: 6-8

Our hope of heaven is secure because it is based on God’s love that sent Christ to die for us while we were yet sinners. In other words, God’s amazing love is not based on us getting our act together to deserve it. It is not based on our track record of performance to guarantee its continued flow. Rather, God’s love is based on the fact that God is love (1 John 4:7). He is gracious (Exod. 34:6). He extends His love and grace to sinners apart from and in spite of anything in them.

While hanging on the Cross and enduring the cruelty of others, Jesus spoke words of forgiveness. “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Jesus’ forgiveness of others was radical and to a degree never seen before.
He forgave them in the midst of His persecution.
As we remember Jesus’ persecution and reflect on the suffering he endured for our sins, let us make a conscious decision to change. This change is to follow God’s commandment. We have lost our way and failed to obey God’s word.

The world is at the grip of a pandemic yet we worry about material things that does not serve to enrich our souls. We are called to be holy, we are made from God’s own image and likeness and we are stubborn to accept our call. God is a merciful and shows compassion however, The time has come when the sheep will be separated from the goats. The choices you make now will determine your fate.

Jesus not only called the religious leaders of his day into account. He is calling us into account even now. Just as His resurrection was the Father’s vindication of Jesus’ claim to be the Savior of the world, so his second coming will be the vindication of His claim to be Lord of Heaven and Earth. On that day our opinions about ourselves will not matter. Only His opinion will matter. On that day Jesus sets people aside for eternal reward or everlasting punishment. But we can do something about our destiny now, before that day. We can bow before Him now.

Jesus said “It is finished” as His last words. This spiritual statement from Jesus is one that affirms that His mission of the redemption of the whole world is accomplished. “It” refers to His perfect sacrifice of love offered for all of us. His death, which we commemorate today, is the perfect sacrifice which takes away the sins of all. What a gift! And what a sacrifice Jesus endured for us!

As we venerate the cross that Jesus died on today. Take Action Now. Bow to your Lord and Saviour.
